In July, Perplexity launched Comet, a browser only available to "Perplexity Max" subscribers via invite-only access. Okay, seems a little hyped up for a browser, but straightforward.
Now, Perplexity announced Comet Plus as "a new subscription that gives Perplexity users access to premium content from a group of trusted publishers and journalists"
The pitch:
- Compensation model that allocates revenue to publishers based on human visits, agent actions, and search citations
- Oasis for users "exhausted by low-quality clickbait, high-friction experiences, and endless blue links to human slop and no answers"
They want you to pay $5/month (for now) for a standalone Comet Plus subscription, but it's included if you have a "Pro" or "Max" subscription.
They also say, "We’ll announce our initial roster of publishing partners when Comet becomes available to all users for free."
In summary: Comet Plus is a browser that will only show you information from a limited number of slop-free websites, and it costs $5/month (or might be free for you now or in the future) and someday they'll tell you which websites it browses.
